The CSA Season is Here! Here is What's in the First Box.
After one of the longest springs in recent memory. A late start, more rain than any of us wanted, and a stretch of flooding that tested everyone across Beaver County, the CSA season is finally here.
Thursday, July 16th. First delivery day.
For our CSA members, that means showing up at Moonshine Cafe in Tofield, Tasty's at River Rock in Ryley, CrossFit Sherwood Park, or right here at the farm and leaving with a box of vegetables that are fresh, local and full of flavour.
For everyone else, it means the farm store is open again. And with it, the summer chapter of Maple Park Farm begins.
What's in the First Box?
Every CSA box reflects what's ready at the farm that week. This week, after the slow start and the wet spring, here's what our members are taking home:
| Baby Potatoes | Small, buttery and incredibly versatile. Roast them whole, boil them or smash and fry them. They require almost no prep and taste like summer. |
| Baby Carrots | Harvested young, before they toughen up. Sweet, crisp and nothing like baby carrots at the grocery store. |
| Radishes | The first vegetables out of the ground every season. Peppery and crisp, they are wonderful sliced thin on salads or quick-pickled for a 10-minute condiment. |
| Zucchini | The most generous vegetable in the summer garden. One week you have none, the next you have more than you know what to do with. We will have recipes to help with that. |
| Alberta Garlic | Fresh garlic from Alberta soil has a brightness and heat that cured supermarket garlic doesn't have. Use it in everything this week. |
An Honest Note About This Season
We want to be straightforward with you about 2026. The flooding this spring affected our fields more than we would have liked, and our yield this season reflects that reality. We have partnered with other local growers to supplement our own production. Rest assured, they use the same growing practices we use.
Our farm store hours are modified for 2026. Thursday 4–8 pm and Saturday 9–12 pm to match what we can harvest and bring in.
We made this decision because we would rather be here for you consistently at hours we can commit to than overextend and underdeliver. That is not how we want to run this farm.
The CSA boxes will be full and seasonal throughout the ten weeks. And as the season progresses and more crops come in, the selection in the farm store will grow with it.
Come See What We've Been Building
While the farm store was closed this spring, we weren't standing still.
A new raised bed cut flower garden took shape, multiple beds, all planted and growing. And alongside the beds, a pergola is being built that will make the raised bed area a destination in its own right when it's complete.
If you are a CSA member, we will see you on Thursday at your pickup location. If you are visiting the farm store, come on Thursday between 4 pm and 8 pm, or Saturday between 9 am and noon.
