A Season That Tested Every Gardener
After one of the wettest Junes in recorded history, the first morning of sunshine felt different.
It brought encouragement, but it didn't erase the challenges of this season. Some gardens are still too wet to work. Some plants simply couldn't survive weeks of saturated soil. Across our region we've seen flooded fields, delayed planting, and crops that will never reach the harvest we had hoped for.
If your own garden has struggled this year, you are not alone. We have heard from many gardeners wondering if their efforts were enough or if this season can still produce something worthwhile.
What We Learned on the Farm
One thing farming teaches us is humility. We can prepare the soil, choose good varieties, and work hard every day, but we cannot control the weather.
Even so, every morning has brought small signs of hope. Flowers that looked finished have surprised us with new blooms. Some vegetables are finally putting on fresh growth. Other crops won't recover, and that's part of farming too.
Your Garden Is More Resilient Than You Think
While not every plant will bounce back, many still can.
If your soil is still too wet, give it time before working it. Remove plants that have clearly failed, but don't be too quick to give up on those showing fresh growth. Watch for new leaves, adjust your expectations for the season, and celebrate every small victory.
Gardening has always been an exercise in patience, adaptation, and hope.
Looking Ahead
This won't be remembered as the year of perfect gardens or record harvests.
But it may be remembered as the year we were reminded how resilient gardeners really are. Every difficult season teaches us something, and those lessons make us better growers the following spring.
