Celebrate National Wave Day at Maple Park Farm!

Celebrate National Wave Day at Maple Park Farm!

If you have ever planted a hanging basket that spilled over with vibrant, non-stop colour all
summer long, or filled a garden bed with a carpet of blooms that seemed to grow right before your eyes, chances are you have met the Wave Petunia.

This Sunday, May 3rd, we are thrilled to join greenhouses across North America in celebrating National Wave Day!

At Maple Park Farm, we grow all of our Wave Petunias and Cool Wave Pansies right here on
the farm from seed. That means when you take them home, you are getting hardy, healthy
plants that are already acclimatized to our local growing conditions.

To celebrate this iconic flower, we are hosting a special event in the greenhouse this Sunday, and we’d love for you to join us.

Join Us for Our Wave Day Talks.

If you have ever stood in the greenhouse and wondered, "Which Wave Petunia is actually
best for my garden?"  You are not alone. We get this question all the time! The truth is, not
all Wave Petunias do the same job.

This Sunday, we are hosting two talks in the greenhouse at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM.

We will be sharing the wild history of how these plants were discovered (hint: it involves a
Japanese beer company!) and giving you the inside scoop on exactly which varieties will
thrive best in your specific planters and garden beds.

A Quick Guide to the Wave Family.

Cannot wait until Sunday?  Here is a quick cheat sheet to help you understand the different members of the Wave family we grow here at the farm:

• Wave: The original! This spectacular, low-growing, spreading habit makes it ideal for
landscapes and garden beds. It forms a colourful carpet of blooms that doesn't need to
be trimmed back.

• Easy Wave: A fantastic choice for baskets and containers. It has a more mounded,
controlled spreading habit than the original Wave, making it very easy to manage.

• Shock Wave: The ultimate choice for hanging baskets. It produces a mounded,
spreading plant with slightly smaller blooms, but it performs beautifully in small spaces
and mixed combos.

• Tidal Wave: The giant of the family! Tidal Wave varieties create a very full, shrub-like
plant. If you give them space, they make an incredible groundcover. If you plant them
close together, they form a dense, mounded hedge.

• Cool Wave Pansies: Want that trailing, spreading habit but need something that can
handle the cool spring weather? Cool Wave Pansies are the answer. They offer amazing
vigour and colour for early spring and autumn.

See You Sunday!

Whether you need the perfect trailing flower for a hanging basket or a massive spreader for a garden bed, we’ll help you find the right fit.

Come and wander the aisles, and let’s talk plants. We can't wait to celebrate
National Wave Day with you this Sunday at Maple Park Farm!
