Hard to believe another year is beginning, and your garden is anxiously awaiting your attention. This is a great time to start your gardening plans for the upcoming year.
Here are some January Gardening Tasks to chase away the winter blues:
Seeds:
1. If you have seed from previous years, now is a good time to perform a germination test on them to ensure they are still viable. If they are viable, no need to buy seed this year therefore saving you money.
2. Plan your garden space. Make a list of seeds you need. Once your visit the garden center or order online, you don't want to have to go back because you forget something. Here is a link to our Favorite Online Canadian Seed Companies
3. Set up your seed starting area. Do you need grow lights, trays, etc?
4. Do any of your seeds need cold stratification? Some examples include Delphinium, Platycodon, Echinacea and Solidago.
January is a good time to seed:
- Lisianthus
- Eucalyptus
- Luffa
Tools:
If you haven't already, you can ensure your tools are sharpened, cleaned and stored away safely.
